MINITRIX 11015 Special-Set - PtL 2/2

The history of PtL 2/2 (Glaskasten / Glass Box):
Two of the main differences between Maffei's ML 2/2 and Krauss's PtL 2/2 were the external steam cylinders and valve gear. A special feature of these units was the glassed in engineer’s cab that almost completely surrounded the boiler and gave the locomotive its nickname “Glaskasten” / “Glass Box”. PtL 2/2 have driving position on the right side of the boiler. Between 1908 and 1909, Krauss Factory built 29 locomotives for K.Bay.Sts.B. (road name 4507-4535), but when the DRG was formed, they took over only nine engines which became Class 98.3 and were numbered 98 301 to 98 309.
Engine 98 307 can be seen at German Steam Locomotive Museum - Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg /Oberfranken.
In 1910, Krauss developed additional simplified PtL 2/2 engines, but without the jack-shaft of the original version. The boiler and cab were taken directly from the jackshaft engines. The new PtL 2/2 have minor changes to the sandboxes and the dimensions of the coal hopper. The first of these engines without the jack-shaft was delivered to the Swiss Sensetalbahn in 1910. Krauss built 13 of these locomotives for K.Bay.Sts.B., 9 engines in 1911 (road number 4536-44544) and other 4 engines in 1914 (road number 4545-4548), which were renumbered 98 310 - 98 322 by the DRG.
Three of these engines without the jack-shaft were built for the Royal Prussian Railway Administration (KPEV), designated as type T2 with engines 6081 and 6082 going to KED Altona. Engine 6061 went to KED Eberfeld.
